The thin films of CuO-TiO2 were prepared on steel substrates via a solgel method. The stearic acid was then deposited on the CuOTiO2 films to obtain an organicinorganic composite film. The contact angle measurements and Xray diffraction were used to investigate the films’ wetting behavior and crystalline structure of films, respectively. UMT3 friction and wear testing machine was used to studied the tribological performances of the films against the bearing steel ball under reciprocating sliding and dry friction. The stearic acid modified CuO-TiO2 composite film presents high hydrophobic state with a water contact angle of 135°. Due to the synergy effects of antiwear performance of CuO-TiO2 film and frictionreducing performance of stearic acid film, the composite film has good tribological performance.
