Abstract:In order to improve the comprehensive performance of composite aluminum greases,a series of composite aluminumlithium greases were prepared using mineral oil (KN4010) as the base oil and 12hydroxystearic acid, stearic acid, benzoic acid, lithium hydroxide and aluminium isopropoxide as the thickener. The effects of the amount of base oil and the ratio of aluminum based thickener to lithium based thickener were studied through characterizing the main parameters of dropping point, cone penetration, evaporation loss, oil separation and friction coefficient. The results demonstrate that the composite aluminumlithium grease with the aluminumlithium ratio of 3∶1 possesses a high dropping point,a weak oil separation and a low evaporation loss.Meanwhile the friction coefficient and wear scar diameter are obviously lower and smaller than those of the composite aluminum grease.Al and Li elements in composite aluminumlithium grease may play a role in friction reduction,so that the friction coefficient and wear scar diameter are obviously reduced compared with the composite aluminum grease.
