The one dimensional finite element algorithm for Reynolds equation was studied,and discretization of the angular pressure distribution was discussed.Based on the algorithm,the Newton method for the calculation of journal center static equilibrium position was studied,and a load approaching method was proposed in order to solve the divergence problem of Newton method due to unproper initial iteration value.The oil film forces,oil film stiffness and damping were analyzed based on the algorithm.The variation tendency of journal center equilibrium position on the increasing load was studied.The result shows that the load approximation method can obtain the journal equilibrium position under arbitrary external load from arbitrary initial position.
