Abstract:The lubricating properties of the ship stern bearing were studied by using the JFO boundary condition and programming the corresponding lubrication simulation program. The influences of operation parameters, such as speed, bearing width, external load and cavity pressure on the lubricating properties were analyzed. The research results show that, compared with the Reynolds boundary condition, the JFO boundary condition is closer to reality.Cavity pressure doesn’t always undermine the bearing carrying capacity. The increase of cavity pressure and bearing width all causes the decrease of eccentricity and maximum oil film pressure, the increase of external load leads to the augment of oil film pressure and cavity at a nonlinear trend, and the increase of speed causes the reduction of the maximum oil film pressure. The size of cavity expands with the increasing of speed and its position moves toward the maximum clearance of bearing.
