Abstract:Didodecyl carbonate(DDC)was synthesized via a sodium methoxide promoted transesterification of dodecanol with dimethyl carbonate. The product was characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy, mass spectroscopy,1H and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance spectrum. The effects of reaction conditions on the reaction outcome were investigated. The results show that, under the optimum reaction conditions, the DDC yield reaches more than 89%.The kinematic viscosity is found to be 3.43 mm2/s at 100 ℃,and 11.77 mm2/s at 40 ℃ with the viscosity index of 184.As a result,DDC is suitable to be high viscosity index lubricant.DDC possesses better extreme pressure and anti-wear properties compared with the traditional ester oil of diisooctyl sebacate.
