For the purpose of extracting and characterizing the characteristic signal of frictional vibration,experiments of friction and wear of a piston ring against a cylinder in marine diesel engine were conducted on the friction and wear testing machine.The nonlinear and nonstationary frictional vibration signals were denoised by using ensemble empirical mode decomposition (EEMD).The frictional vibration signals were analyzed by utilizing the multifractal algorithm to derive the multifractal spectrum as well as its parameters.The results show that with the operation of friction and wear tests go on,the amplitude distribution multifractal spectrum and the frequency distribution multifractal spectrum of the frictional vibration signals present certain change rule.The frictional vibration signal can be characterized by the multifractal spectrum as well as its parameters,indicating the method of frictional vibration signal recognition based on multifractal can be used for the state recognition of frictional vibration of friction pair.
