The tribological behaviors of naphthenic acid as antiwear additive in jet fuel for use in diesel engines were evaluated using the high frequency reciprocating rig (HFRR) apparatus. The morphologies and elemental distributions of the worn steel surface were analyzed by means of nanosurface analyzer, the scanning electron microscopy and EDS spectrum. It is found that wear scar diameter and friction coefficient are decreased rapidly at the beginning, then decreased slowly with the increasing of the concentration of naphthenic acids. When the concentration of naphthenic acid in jet fuel is above 80 mg/L,the demand of lubricity of jet fuel on diesel engine can be met.The exterior roughness of worn surface is decreased with the increasing of the concentration of naphthenic acids.Compared to the oxygen content on worn surface of steel ball lubricated by the base fuel, the oxygen content on worn surface of steel ball lubricated by the fuel added with naphthenic acid is obviously increased, indicating naphthenic acid could be strongly absorbed on the metal surface by the chemical friction reaction to improve the frictionreducing and antiwear abilities.
