Abstract:By using Cucoated graphite particles as the lubricant and the spark plasma sintering method (SPS),five Cubased powder metallurgy friction materials were prepared under the sintering temperatures of 700 ℃,740 ℃,780 ℃,820 ℃ and 860 ℃.The Cucoated graphite particles were also sintered alone under above five temperatures. The mechanical properties, friction and wear properties under different braking conditions and microstructures of the materials were tested, the effects of sintering temperature on the interfacial bonding between the graphite and matrix, friction and wear properties of the materials were studied, and the optimal sintering temperature was got.The results show that with the increase of the sintering temperature, the interficial solid solubility between the Fe particles and matrix is enhanced, but excessively elevating sintering temperature may destroy the integrity of the Cucoating on the graphite surface, and reduce the interficial bonding between the graphite and matrix. With the increase of initial braking speed, the average friction coefficients and wear rates of the materials at different sintering temperatures show a obvious decrease at first and then a small change. When the initial braking speeds are 100 km/h and 150 km/h,the friction coefficients and wear rates of the two materials at sintering temperatures of 700 ℃ and 740 ℃ are obviously higher than those of the other three materials. When the initial braking speed is higher than 150 km/h,except that the material at sintering temperature of 860 ℃ has obviously low friction coefficient, the other four materials have the similar friction coefficients, and the five materials have little difference on wear rates under the same test conditon. The material at sintering temperature of 780 ℃ has good mechanic, friction and wear properties.
