The tribological performance of surface texturing in lubricated point contacts was studied. The rectangular micro textures with prescribed shape, depth and coverage ratio was machined by laser process and characterized by the Dual Mode 3D Profilometer. The tribological tests were conducted on the commercial friction tester UMT III to investigate the effect of the texture parameters such as the depth and spacing of the micro texture on the lubrication performance of ball on disc model under reciprocating mode. The results show that the shallow micro textures produce low friction coefficient. The improved tribological effect can be obtained for surface texture at high frequencies. The friction coefficient is decreased with the increase of the texture interval in a sliding direction until the texture interval is greater than the Hertzian diameter. The friction coefficient is first decreased then increased with the increase of the side of rectangular texture thta is perpendicular to the sliding direction.
