A sliding equipment was used to simulate the running condition of a small two-stroke engine, and the tribological properties between cylinder and ring of engine fueled by gasoline and methanol were studied. The tribological properties between cylinder and ring were compared when the new lubricant oil,the aging lubricant oil,and the mixture of the new lubricant oil and the aged oil were used as the lubricating oils respectively. Results show that the friction coefficient and wear volume of the engine fueled by methanol are smaller than that by gasoline, especially, the friction coefficient and wear volume of the engine with fuel adding new lubricant oil are the smallest.Based on the analysis of viscosity and thermogravimetry (TG),the reason why methanol fuel can improve the friction between cylinder and piston ring was discussed. It is found that methanol fuel has high viscosity and low friction coefficient,so the wear can be reduced when methanol is used as fuel.
