Abstract:A new type of non-metallic brush seal was prepared by using carbon matrix composite as brush wire, and a special device was built to evaluate the sealing performance and flow characteristics of the brush seal. The porous medium model was used to simulate the brush area, and the leakage and internal flow characteristics of the brush seal were obtained by simulation calculation. The experimental and simulation results show that the increase of pressure drop results the the increase of leakage, while the influence of speed on leakage is not obvious. The simulation results show that the pressure drop mainly occurs within the brush zone, and larger pressure drop produces larger jet vortex flow in the rear cavity.Durable test show that after the initial running in,the brush sealing performance is stable and meets the sealing requirements. However, after a longer period of durability test, the brush sealing performance of non-metallic brush seal is decreased seriously, indicating that the durability of non-metallic brush seal still needs to be improved.
