Abstract:The grain orientation of contact surface has a significant impact on the friction and corrosion properties of metal materials (including coatings). The influence of grain orientation on the friction and corrosion properties of light metals (Mg,Al,Ti) and transition metals (Ni,Cu,Zn) was reviewed. It was pointed out that the main problems in the present research is the lack of systematic experimental conditions for the study of friction and corrosion behavior and the lack of thorough understanding of the microfriction and corrosion mechanism. It was suggested that more advanced characterization methods should be used to analyze the microstructure and composition of wear, corrosion surface and subsurface microzone so as to further study the effect of crystal orientation on friction and corrosion properties, the slip and atomic density factors should be taken into consideration for explaining the influence mechanism of different grain orientations on their friction and corrosion properties, and on the basis of studying the effect of grain orientation under single friction or corrosion condition, the effect of grain orientation on friction and corrosion properties under combined wear and corrosion condition should be further discussed.
