The academic thinking of tribology on nature,social functions and practice application of Jost is discussed.Jost considered the nature of tribology is a generic multi-disciplinary subject and is also a key switch on technology.For the social functions of tribology,he held that the application of Tribology,and especial ‘Green Tribology can provide a breathing space which would enable scientists and technologists to find solutions of these mankinds crucial problems.As for the practice application of tribology,Jost stressed particularly to deal with the relationship between research and application in tribology,and must pay more attention to the applied research,but will also create the transfer of the research results into practice.
