Polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE)based three layer composites modified by lead and Polyimide(PI) were prepared by filling mixed rare earth oxides with powder and halide solution two ways. The effects of rare earth oxides on friction and wear properties of the lead and Polyimide(PI) modified lead-free three-layer composites were investigated, and the action mechanism of rare earth were analyzed. The results show that the interface bonding performance between each component of composites is significantly improved by doping rare earth elements into the formula of PTFE three-layer composites, the flaw on interface generated in the friction process is reduced and smooth friction surface is maintained. When using rare earth halide solution to modify PTFE three-layer composite materials, the rare earth elements are more uniformly distributed in the composite materials, and a more obvious improvement effect can be obtained.
