A new magnetic fluid lubricated noncontact mechanical seal was proposed according to the characteristics of magnetic fluid viscosity changing with magnetic field strength.The electromagnetic field generator was designed for the noncontact mechanical seal,and the magnetic field strength in the overall model composed of seal rings and magnetic fluid film was analyzed by using ANSYS.The distributions of the magnetic field lines and the magnetic field strength were obtained,and the relationship between the current intensity in the generator and the magnetic field strength was established.The simulation result indicates that there exists the highest magnetic field strength in the magnetic fluid film of the end face of seal ring.The magnetic field lines are uniformly distributed through the whole clearance and are perpendicular to the end face of seal ring.Thereby the control of viscosity of magnetic fluid film can be realized by adjusting the current intensity of the generator.
